You are probably thinking that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is something completely new and within the last 10 years of developing. But it actually started back in the 50s where fellow MIT students began introducing it.

Artificial Intelligence according to John McCarthy, one of the founders: “It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence”.

Artificial Intelligence is a way of making computers or software think intelligently. It is very similar to the way human brains are thinking, and it's also the philosophy behind it. Can we make a computer think by itself like a human? This is how Artificial Intelligence is accomplished. Studying how humans learn, working when solving problems and how we take decisions.

But how do we get there? Well, this is a bit tricky question and there are a lot of theories to this and especially how you define Artificial Intelligence. We can start by learning something about how we can make computers solve problems by observing people. But the valuable work with Artificial Intelligence involves studying the problems the world presents to us instead of studying people behavior.

Currently Artificial Intelligence is used in a lot of different fields and we’ve listed a few of them below:

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Interactions between human languages and computers. Focused on computers processing and analyzing large amounts of natural language data. NoteHlp is based on NLP.

Using Artificial Intelligence in strategic games. Chess, poker, Blackjack, tic-tac-toe, etc., basically where computers can be used to calculate all possible positions with heuristic knowledge.

Speech Recognition

These are where intelligent systems are able to hear and comprehend languages. Speech Recognition is also capable of understanding slang words, accents, background noise and change in emotions.

Handwriting Recognition
Software reads handwritten text in paperform and recognizes shapes of letters before converting it into editable text on a device.

Vision Systems

Used to understand and interpret visual inputs on a computer. It could be facial recognition used by the police to recognize faces of criminals.

Robots being able to perform actions by human orders. They have a bunch of sensors detecting physical data such as temperature, sound, movement and pressure for instance. They are able to learn from their mistakes and this is what makes them smarter.

Since NoteHlp is based on Natural Language Processing, let’s take a closer look:
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is one of many branches from Artificial Intelligence. NLP can be used for part of speech tagging, tokenization and parsing, language detection of a document and semantic relationships between characters. NLP in other terms is breaking down huge amount of data into shorter pieces for a better understanding of the relationships between every piece. It’s also about exploring how all pieces are working together creating a useful meaning.

The reason we use Artificial Intelligence at NoteHlp is that it makes our software more realistic and even more dynamic. We’re able to work with more complex datasets and it sets ourselves in a great position to provide the best service for our users. We’re not binded to some strict algorithms but instead we’re using deep learning algorithms which makes our opportunities much better.
